City introduces newly designed website

Apr 27, 2023 | 11:48 AM

The City of North Battleford has completely redesigned its website to make it more user friendly and easier to navigate.

City communications administrator Dustin MacDonald presented the new website at city council’s meeting this week. The site went live today.

The city first partnered with GHD Digital Public Sector Solutions in 2022 to develop the new website.

“We have built this fresh, right from the ground up,” MacDonald said. “The technology is vastly improved.”

He said the content was the biggest focus in the project, to make sure information is readily accessible.

“I’m very excited about this,” he said. “It has been a huge undertaking. I’m just lucky I had great support… It’s been educational going through this whole process.”

Coun. Kelli Hawtin applauded the new site. She said technology is what all businesses need to thrive right now.

She noted the city’s old website could be clumsy and challenging for people to navigate efficiently. So, the redesign is a positive step forward.

“I’m excited for this. It will be a real benefit to the whole community, and those folks that are visiting who are interested in learning more about our community,” Hawtin said.

According to the city’s news release, GHD Digital Public Sector Solutions was awarded the contract for the project in 2022, following a public bidding process for the website’s development, design, layout, and annual hosting services. The total cost for the new site is $19,405, with an annual website hosting fee of just under $7,000.

The city is inviting people to explore the new website.

“The new cityofnb.ca site has been conceived and re-written for content – more than 160 pages worth of content – to be easier to manoeuvre for persons with visual impairment accessing the site with the assistance of a screenreader,” MacDonald said. “The quick access icons make it much more simple to navigate. Overall, the change will make the city’s website much more user friendly, and optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile site viewing.”

If anyone has any questions or needs assistance with the new website, they can contact the city at dmacdonald@cityofnb.ca or call 306-445-1700 during regular business hours.
