Two facing charges related to ‘significant’ drug seizure near Maidstone

Apr 24, 2023 | 5:37 PM

Two people are facing charges following what police say was a “significant” seizure of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine near Maidstone.

Maidstone RCMP said they performed a roadside stop for a licence, registration and sobriety check on Highway 16 near Maidstone on April 21.

While speaking with the two men in the vehicle, the officer became suspicious they may be in possession of illegal drugs. The occupants were then detained for a drug investigation.

After investigating, police discovered the passenger was breaching previous release conditions. The officer also believed the passenger was in possession of illegal drugs. Police arrested him, and searched the vehicle.

Following their investigation, police found 3.3 kilograms of fentanyl, seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and one kilogram of cocaine.

The driver, Gurpreet Singh, 20, and the passenger, Prince Sharma, 21, have both been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine. Sharma has also been charged with failing to comply with release conditions.

Singh and Sharma appeared in Lloydminster Provincial court on April 24 and were both remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in court again on May 18.
