Saskatchewan RCMP WEST arrest Quebec man wanted on Canada-wide warrant

Feb 27, 2023 | 3:40 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP have arrested a Quebec man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, with help from the RCMP North Battleford Crime Reduction Team.

Police said that the Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST) received a request from the Saskatoon Integrated Intelligence Unit (SIIU) last month to find David Corte, 36, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for outstanding charges issued in Quebec.

After investigating, police believed Corte was likely in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan RCMP WEST in Saskatoon, working with the Quebec City Police Service, confirmed Corte was in Saskatoon, actively evading police. Investigators confirmed information to help determine Corte’s whereabouts and activities.

Based on all details gathered, Corte was believed to be at a home on the 100 block of Douglas Crescent in Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan RCMP WEST conducted patrols in the area when they noticed a man who matched the description of Corte leaving in a vehicle on Feb. 17. The North Battleford Crime Reduction Team that was called to assist, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver was identified as David Corte and arrested in Saskatoon without incident.

Following a request made by the Quebec City Police Service, the Saskatchewan RCMP Provost Unit arranged to have Corte transported from Saskatoon to Regina, to prepare for his departure via commercial plane to Quebec City.

“Saskatchewan RCMP WEST is committed to conducting law enforcement and intelligence activities with the goal of locating individuals who are actively evading police custody,” acting Inspector, Kory Davidsen, senior investigative officer with Saskatchewan RCMP SERT-WEST, said. “Working in close collaboration with inter-jurisdictional partner police agencies is key to our ability to apprehend individuals who are on release for serious offences, ultimately making our communities safer.”

Corte was scheduled to make his first appearance in Quebec Provincial Court Feb. 23.
