Feb 21, 2023 | 5:04 PM

Five people are facing multiple charges that include possessing banned guns, ammunition, bear spray and a machete along with a stolen SUV after an investigation by Pierceland RCMP.

Police say that just after 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 16, they were told of an armed robbery on Deer Lake Trail in Pierceland.

A man and woman were parked in an SUV on the side of the road when they were approached by two other vehicles.

Following an altercation between the man and the people in the other vehicles, the man was shot and received non-life-threatening injuries. The SUV was then stolen.

The man and woman were able to call for help and the man was taken to hospital.

With the help of Loon Lake RCMP, officers found one of the suspect vehicles on Island Lake First Nation and arrested three people inside.

The other two suspects were found and arrested the following day and the stolen SUV was found on the Mudie Lake First Nation.

Charges of robbery, aggravated assault and six gun-related offences have all been sworn against 29-year-old Keshia Crookedneck from Pierceland; 30-year-old Geoffrey Lewis from Island Lake First Nation; 33-year-old Harold Mitsuing, Jr. from Island Lake First Nation; 23-year-old Andrew Opikokew from Big Island Lake Cree Territory; and 31-year-old Elliott Piche from Mudie Lake.

Mitsuing is also charged with four counts of failing to comply with release order conditions and Piche has two similar charges.

Opikokew, Piche, Lewis and Mitsuing are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 1.

Crookedneck is scheduled to appear in court in Pierceland on March 14.
