Two men arrested after Highway 16 pursuit

Feb 8, 2023 | 4:00 PM

A man from Sweetgrass First Nation and another from Edmonton have been identified as the pair arrested following a high-speed police pursuit on Highway 16 near Waseca last night.

Nakota Pooyak, 29, and Warren Littlewolfe, 32, are both charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property, and resisting/obstructing peace officers.

Cut Knife RCMP say they got a tip that a wanted man was travelling into their detachment area, on Tuesday just before 7:00 p.m.

When they found the vehicle and tried to pull it over, the driver did not stop. Officers then chased it onto Highway 16.

They also called in re-enforcements from Battlefords, Maidstone, Lloydminster, Wilton Police Service, the Ministry of Highways, and the Warrant Enforcement Team.

It took some negotiations and finally the use of non-lethal intervention before the two men were taken into custody.

The vehicle had been stolen in Edmonton. RCMP closed both directions of the highway for about six hours, re-opening it at 3:00 am.

Saskatchewan RCMP had been looking for Pooyak since mid-January. Corrections Canada issued a warrant for Pooyak, who was unlawfully at large.

On Jan. 19, Battlefords RCMP arrested Adam Semanganis of Poundmaker First Nation in Alberta, who was unlawfully at large with Pooyak.

The house Semanganis was in when he was arrested also contained three women. All three women were wanted by Battlefords RCMP, Regina Police, and Saskatoon, and were arrested.
