Battlefords Bent Rodz Car Club gearing up for season

Jan 27, 2023 | 5:00 AM

The Battlefords Bent Rodz Car Club recently held a meeting previewing a busy season ahead in the community.

The Bent Rodz Car Club is a locally based conglomerate of car enthusiasts that gather together to visit, support local events and initiatives in the area, and share in their love for all things motor vehicles.

President Greg Korpach said the club’s recent meeting was held as a way to get the word out ahead of the spring season as they are looking to grow and expand their group within the Battlefords and surrounding area.

“We generally hold club meetings once a month, but figured we’d hold a public one just to get everybody involved and let them know what’s coming up,” Korpach said. “This was kind of our kickoff for the year, just to let everyone know what we’re planning.”

May 2023

The season will officially kick off May 22 with their first “Cars and Coffee” event, which will then run weekly throughout the spring at the north-side Tim Hortons in North Battleford.

“It’s a chance to get everyone out to support one of the local businesses, meet for coffee in the parking lot, and enjoy an evening out to chat cars,” Korpach said. “We usually have a pretty good crew that gets together, and this is a chance for people to tag along and visit. People are welcome to come check it out and see what we’re about.”

June 2023

Beginning in June, the club will regularly attend the Friday night market at the Frontier Mall, which generally runs throughout the summer months and into September. As part of the event, they will also hold a Show ‘N Shine when weather permits, and take in the Farmers Market to connect with the community.

On June 3, the Battlefords Vintage Auto Club traditionally holds its Show ‘N Shine at the Fred Light Museum which the Bent Rodz Club will attend. That will be followed by their own main event, the Bent Rodz’ own Show ‘N Shine on June 11. The Show ‘N Shine will have a special “Guitars & Cars” theme this year, held at the Dekker Centre parking lot.

Featuring anywhere up to 100 cars, Korpach said this year they’re looking to take things up a notch and grow the event to new heights.

“We’re going to try to fill the parking lot there with cars and entertainment,” Korpach said. “We have bands already in line, and we’re trying to double our usual number of cars this summer. We’re aggressively wanting to grow the event, so we’re getting ahead of things early here to get the awareness out there for people to write it into their schedule.”

Adding to the event, this year’s Show ‘N Shine will feature a few new twists as well, including an area away from the cars where there will be a mobile dyno trailer for people to explore their car’s power, and a burnout box, to kick up some dust and ‘show off for friends.’

Other events

Other events the Bent Rodz Car Club plans to attend this year include the Pike Lake Fun Run in early June, the Western Power Tour, which will be coming through the area in mid-July from a car club down south, and the Glaslyn Car Show on the August Long Weekend.

Other dates still to be determined include those for a ‘Fun Run’ to Maymont and the St. Walburg Blueberry Festival.
