Attempted abduction on Highway 4 near Meadow Lake

Jan 21, 2023 | 3:48 PM

Meadow Lake RCMP are asking for help in finding a suspect or vehicle after an attempted abduction on Highway 4, about 40 kilometres south of Meadow Lake.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday morning, police said a motorist travelling south on Highway 4 stopped to help a man on the side of the road who was laying down next to his truck. When the motorist approached the man, he grabbed them by the arm and stated that he had a weapon while reaching for his back pocket.

The driver managed to separate themselves from the man and ran back to their vehicle, and drove away. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a 50-year-old white man with a black beard and mullet. He was wearing a red plaid shirt over a green shirt and a black hat while the suspect vehicle is described as an older model blue Ford pickup truck with rust on the rear bumper.

Since the report was made, RCMP have been investigating and extensively patrolling the area, but neither the suspect or the vehicle have been located.

Anyone with information or who see suspicious activity are being asked to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Police are also asking residents and motorists in the area to check to see if they captured video of the suspect vehicle. If so, those residents and motorists are being asked to report their findings to Meadow Lake RCMP.
