Two men have been arrested and charged in an investigation that ended up with police seizing a plastic egg filled with Crack Cocaine.

RCMP made the arrests following a December incident in a Beauval bar, involving two masked men threatening the bar’s patrons with a firearm and a machete.

After an investigation and search, Canoe Lake’s Hubert Cardinal, 27, and Prince Albert’s Edwin Corrigal, 40, were arrested.

The initial incident happened on Dec. 14 at a bar in Beauval, but RCMP said it was not reported to police until Dec. 23. No injuries were reported.

Corrigal was the first to be arrested on Jan. 13, after the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team discovered the two suspects were staying at a home in Canoe Lake.

Police found Corrigal in a backyard at the home and made the arrest without incident. Police found a loaded, sawed-off shotgun, machete, seven individual bags of crack cocaine hidden in a plastic egg container, another seven grams of crack cocaine wrapped in foil, 11 grams of marijuana, and cash.

Police were returning to the home on Jan. 15 and saw a black van that was at the residence when Corrigal was arrested. After pulling the van over, police found Cardinal hiding the back under blankets. The other two occupants in the van were released without charges.

As a result of this investigation, Cardinal of Canoe Lake has been charged with the following:

  • Attempt to take a weapon in possession of a police officer
  • Assault police officer
  • Resist arrest
  • Two counts, fail to comply with release order

Corrigal of Prince Albert has been charged with the following:

  • Possess prohibited weapon
  • Possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possess shotgun knowing the serial number is removed
  • Possess firearm while prohibited
  • Possess ammunition while prohibited
  • Unsafe storage
  • Possession of cocaine

Both Cardinal and Corrigal are scheduled to make their next court appearance in Meadow Lake on Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
