The City of North Battleford announced it now has a new director on its corporate leadership team.

James Johansen has been hired as the city’s new engineering, planning, asset management, and infrastructure director.

Johansen, who started with the city Jan. 16, is excited about his new role.

“I look forward to getting to know the people of North Battleford as I serve in this assignment,” he said in a release. “I appreciate that there will be challenges, and hope we will work together to overcome them and make North Battleford a better community.”

Johansen has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, a civil engineering technologist diploma, and is a member with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). The city says he has extensive knowledge and experience from more than 27 years working with municipalities and engineering consulting firms, mainly providing his expertise in engineering-related services to municipalities.

Johansen has previously worked with the Town of Redcliff, Alberta, and the City of Medicine Hat, based on his LinkedIn information. Prior to coming to the City of North Battleford, he worked with Alberta engineering firm Martin Geomatic Consultants Ltd.

North Battleford City Manager Randy Patrick said he is glad to have Johansen join the team.

“I’m happy to welcome James to the corporate leadership team,” he said. “I am sure he will prove invaluable leadership in moving the city forward with exciting initiatives that maximize the useful life of city assets, and provide the best value possible for our taxpayers.”
