Police hunt suspects in truck

Hunt on for truck used in shooting, four female occupants

Jan 11, 2023 | 4:18 PM

A truck with what police believe are four armed women is being sought following a shooting on Big Island Cree Territory.

Pierceland RCMP said the silver 2010 GMC pickup may have gone into Alberta and have notified their counterparts to the west.

Early Wednesday morning at about 12:30 am, the Pierceland detachment got a report of a shot being fired from a pickup driving south on an access road.

The source of the gunshot was a pickup with very bright headlines tailgating the complainant.

Witnesses said the GMC truck had a crew cab and a license plate that ended with “WK.” They were not sure which province issued the plate.

Officers started patrolling the community looking for the truck and found it at about 2:15 driving through the Big Island town site.

The driver failed to stop for officers, so a pursuit began with the pickup driving west on Highway 55 toward Alberta.

Police say that the occupants of the truck were throwing items out of the windows at the police vehicle.

After deciding the situation was not safe, the chase ended.

The public is advised to not approach the truck or the four women who may be inside and may still have guns.

Sightings should be reported to local officers by calling 310-RCMP or whatever local police service there is.

Pierceland RCMP is conducting proactive patrols in the area, obtaining witness statements, and following up on information provided to police to help locate the vehicle and the suspects involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
