22 assaults highlight weekly RCMP report for Battlefords

Nov 30, 2022 | 11:45 AM

Battleford RCMP responded to 446 calls for service between Nov. 23 and Nov. 29. Of note, police responded to 22 assaults and, in one incident, arrested ten people for being unlawfully in a dwelling.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 24, police responded to a report of people living without permission at a residence in the 1500 block of 104 St. in North Battleford. The home was supposed to be vacant. When police arrived, they found ten people inside the residence, ranging in age from 17-52. All ten were arrested, and each face a charge of being unlawfully in a dwelling.

Of the 22 assaults, three are noted in the weekly report. Around 9:00 a.m. on Nov. 24, a woman reported at the North Battleford RCMP detachment that she was assaulted and threatened by a man while driving around the city. She escaped from the vehicle and didn’t sustain any serious injuries during the incident.

A 26-year-old man is now charged with assault and uttering threats. Police say he may also be in violation of a community sentencing order.

On the same day, Nov. 24, around 10:30 p.m., RCMP received a report of an assault in progress on 100 St. in North Battleford. When police arrived, the assault was still in progress. They were able to arrest a 34-year-old man without an incident. He now faces charges of assault, failing to comply with an undertaking, and failing to comply with probation. The victim and the suspect are known to each other.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 25, police received multiple reports of an altercation in progress and were also given numerous locations for the incident. The police found the correct place where they discovered a female victim with minor injuries to her extremities. A 32-year-old man is facing an assault charge.

RCMP responded to 77 disturbances and conducted 14 mental health investigations, among other calls.

Battleford RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay noted the number of vehicle collisions they responded to during the recent storm was lighter than usual. Tremblay says it appears drivers in the Battlefords have done a good job of adapting their driving for winter conditions.
