Man shot during armed robbery in Delmas
A man was taken to hospital with injuries following reports of an armed robbery in Delmas, west of North Battleford, on Nov. 18.
According to Battlefords RCMP, police were called to a home at 10 p.m. after receiving a call that a man was injured by a firearm during a robbery.
According to the report, three suspects entered the home. A man in his fifties was then shot in the arm when one suspect fired a gun, police say. The suspects also fired the weapon at a second victim, who was not struck, and then they fled with the victim’s vehicle. The injured victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening. The victim’s vehicle was located a short time later abandoned near Delmas.
One suspect was arrested at a nearby home a short time later and taken into custody without incident. David Barthel, 43, is facing numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, forcible entry, careless use of a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent.
