Darrell Bleier

Darrell, a son, a brother, a believer, a dear friend, a sports fan and so much more.

How does one sum up the life of a man who touched so many?

“Two Watches!!” …….. we all know Darrell never did anything halfway. The more the better! From the items he needed, to the love, care and concern he showed family and friends.

Darrell was born May 9, 1965, to Sharon and Ed Bleier. He was the eldest brother to Rod, Terry and Wade.

Family was very important to Darrell, the relationship he had with his mom is one that every mom aspires for. Her strength and perseverance were qualities that were also instilled in Darrell, he fought to the bitter end, never missed a day of work and stood up for his beliefs. Darrell’s brothers each held a special place in his heart, he was ecstatic when Terry married Carolyn and Wade, Robin, as he finally had sisters.

Ill never forget the day Darrell became an uncle. He was so excited telling everyone that would listen that “He was an uncle now!” Darrell was a proud Uncle to Cody, Brittney, Reid, Nate and Jace.

Darrell had an incredible memory. Not a phone number, name or Birthdate did he forget. There may have been a time or two we all wished he forgot our phone numbers, those early morning phone calls on repeat, but in retrospect those are the things we are missing the most.

Darrell was devoted to his faith. It was at the Church that his beliefs grew strong along with friendships, and he loved his guitar lessons with sister Rita.

Darrell moved to the Battlefords to attend Centennial Park School. He was one of the founding residents of Battlefords Residential Services. His first home being at Prairie Villa Group Home. Darrell gained skills and moved to an apartment with a friend in the old Sunnyside grocery store. He joined the Supported Living Program, and in 1999 moved into an apartment that was to be his alone. Darrell remained here for the last 23 years. He took great pride in his apartment and all his treasures.

A big part of Darrell’s life was the Supported Living Program. He spent every evening making supper with friends and going to community and out of town events. The highlight was the many camping and fishing trips. Afternoons spent by the fire singing songs, with Darrell playing guitar and a glass of wine on his table. He loved to fish, this year he was the master fisherman, as he by far out fished us all.

Darrell worked at Maple Leaf for 7 years till their closing, he made many friendships over the years and this job gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

Weekends for Darrell were spent cheering on the “North Stars”, he was an avid season ticket holder and rarely missed a game.

Friendships were made wherever Darrell went, the Casino, Youth farm Bible Camp, Walmart, Sandwich Patch, the library etc and each and everyone was very important to him. He loved telling stories of what he had done, where he went and who he saw there.

Darrell had a gentle soul and a kind heart, and his smile could light up an entire room. Darrell’s big personality has left a huge gap in our lives, but we celebrate the memories we shared together and cherish the friendship he gave so freely.
