The case for a man facing a charge in connection with an attack caught on video in Battleford was back at North Battleford provincial court Thursday.

Adam Lesmeister, 46, of Battleford, was originally facing a charge of assault in the July 17 incident. The charge has now been upgraded to assault causing bodily harm.

His case was adjourned to Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. for a plea.

A second accused in the matter, Dane Lesmeister, 19, is facing a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His case is due back in court on Nov. 14.

Battlefords RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay previously said in an email to battlefordsNOW that only two people are facing charges in the case.

Police responded to a complaint of an assault on 17th Street East in Battleford.

The initial investigation found that a man was approached by three men he did not know. One of the three men allegedly assaulted him; all three left the area before officers arrived. The victim received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) issued a statement following the attack, calling the attack racially motivated.
