Meadow Lake is getting a new arena and more. The province announced over $37-million in combined funding for a new recreational complex this morning. The 123,054-square-foot recreational facility will be a cultural and community gathering centre and will include a full NHL-sized ice surface.

The funding from all three levels of government announced today totals $37,330,057.

The federal government has committed $14,932,023 and the province is contributing $12,442,108. Meadow Lake is adding $9,955,926.

The announcement is expected to be good news for the city of Meadow Lake. Their arena burned down in June 2021 under suspicious circumstances. The city of Meadow Lake will reveal more about the project at an event in Meadow Lake on Friday. At the time of the fire, the city said there was insurance on the arena that could be used to help build a new facility.

In November 2021, the city revealed artist renderings and plans for a new multi-use facility. At the time, the city was applying to the federal government for funding, with the understanding the province would contribute to the project as well.
