North Stars claim victory in opening game of SJHL season

Sep 17, 2022 | 7:24 AM

It was just the way the North Stars hoped to open the new SJHL season as they took down their west central rivals on Friday night.

Both teams went back and forth but the North Stars would come up victorious in a 4-3 win against the Kindersley Klippers.

Evan Waldie had the first goal of the game for the North Stars, 9:21 into the first period.

The Klippers tied the game near the midway point of the second period off a shot from Cameron Rimstad. Less than 20 seconds later, Jordan Gibbs would put the North Stars ahead once again.

Kindersley would then take the lead thanks to two goals within 20 seconds of each other. The first came at the 13:44 mark of the second period with Adam Paplawski tying the game before Tylin Hilbig gave the Klippers their first lead of the game 19 seconds later.

Steven Kesslering would tie the game once again as the assistant captain scored on the power play with less than four minutes left.

Both teams exchanged plenty of shots in the third period, but the North Stars had the only goal from Keiton Klein.

Jordan Gibbs was named the first star of the game after netting a goal and an assist.

The two teams square off again for the North Stars home opener on Saturday night.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7, and puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
