COVID levels in P.A. and North Battleford some of largest recorded during pandemic

COVID levels continue to rise in Prince Albert and North Battleford according to recent data obtained by the University of Saskatchewan.

Researchers studying the virus through the each community’s wastewater determined both communities are experiencing one of the largest viral loads recorded during the pandemic.

The levels in P.A. as of Sept. 5 are the forth highest on record, while those in North Battleford recorded on Sept. 2 were fifth highest.

As for Saskatoon, the third city observed by the U of S, its levels are also the fourth highest recorded.

Each community’s levels are also at least double what they’ve been averaging over the past 10 weeks, the university says.

The research also states the Omicron sub-variant BA.5 is the most dominant strain found in North Battleford and Saskatoon, while BA.2 continues to be the largest in P.A.

The subvariant accounts for roughly 50 per cent of levels in Saskatoon and around 51 per cent in North Battleford. BA.2 is much more prominent in P.A. as it’s accounting for over 72 per cent of levels, according to the university.
