Stars take pre-season sweep of Bonnyville with 5-3 win

Sep 1, 2022 | 10:42 PM

The Battlefords North Stars took home a 5-3 victory over the Bonnyville Pontiacs Thursday night, to extend their record to a perfect 2-0 to open the pre-season.

Just a night after six different Stars combined for seven goals in Wednesday’s 7-1 win, the Stars saw four different players chip in on their five goals in Bonnyville, to cap the team’s back-to-back exhibition series with their Albertan foe.

Keiton Klein led the way for the Battlefords with a pair of goals on the night, while Evan Waldie, Holden Doell and Anton Petrovskiy rounded out the scoring for the team.

Goaltender, Lowen Kenyon also played a crucial role in the victory, stopping 41 of 44 Pontiacs’ shots, to secure the win between the pipes.

A 1-0 North Stars lead at the end of the first, both teams scored a trio apiece in the middle period, to make it a 4-3 Stars’ advantage heading into the third. In the final frame, the Battlefords then pulled away with another pair to make it 5-3, the final.

The North Stars will now get the weekend to rest up and regroup, ahead of their return to action Tuesday, Sept. 6 for their first home game of the pre-season in North Battleford.

The Stars will play their first of two exhibition games against the rival Kindersley Klippers Tuesday, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre.
