Battleford Food Truck Festival and Trade Show to start this week

The Town of Battleford is getting geared up to host its first Food Truck Festival and Trade Show.

The event will run at the Battleford arena, with Discovery Co-op as the main sponsor.

Town community planner, Paige Hundt, spearheaded the idea for the initiative.

“The ultimate goal is just to have people enjoy themselves, and create a weekend full of fun, memories and good food,” she said.

Hundt said the event will also bring people to the community, which will give a boost to local businesses too.

The initiative will include a trade show with more than 50 vendor booths, live entertainment, beer gardens, and kids’ activities in the arena, and eight food trucks will be located on the north side of the venue.

The festival was initially planned to run at the Alex Dillabough Centre, but the location was changed because of the volume of the events.

“When we received such an overwhelming response, we decided we wanted to make it a little bit bigger and accommodate more [activities], so we moved it to the arena to have that extra space,” Hundt said.

Some of the items people can expect to see at the show will include fresh vegetables, home baking, handmade goods, and art work for example.

Hundt thanks town council and administration for their support for getting the festival going.

“I think it will just be a great weekend overall,” she said.

The event will run from Aug. 26 to 28; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
