RCMP Report: Firearm arrests, vehicle thefts

Battlefords RCMP made two firearms arrests to end July.

The first stemmed from a call reporting a suspicious male, who appeared to be trying to get into vehicles in an alley off of 100th St. on July 28. Officers located the 34-year-old male suspect and found a concealed weapon. He attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended.

The accused appears in court on Oct. 3 for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting arrest.

In a second incident, police received a call of a man with a firearm near Moosomin First Nation on July 30. They located him and a .22 calibre handgun.

After being remanded into custody, 28-year-old Ethan Linklater appeared in court on Aug. 3 for several offences, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Vehicle thefts

Several incidents involving automobile robbery resulted in arrests. This includes July 27, where a previously reported stolen vehicle was recovered on 5th Ave in Battleford, containing three suspects. A 28-year-old woman and a youth were released without charges, while a 37-year-old man from Cut Knife was charged with possession of stolen property and appears in court on Aug. 29.

Additionally, a 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old youth were arrested when found in possession of a stolen vehicle on a grid road in the Cochin district on Aug. 2. The woman was later released on charges of possession of stolen property and impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 3, while the youth was released and is facing theft of a motor vehicle.

Other vehicle theft investigations include:

  • A 25 year-old-woman charged with theft of a motor vehicle after she was reportedly stole keys to a vehicle after asking residents to call a cab. The vehicle was recovered in Cut Knife and she appears in court Sept. 19.
  • A blue 2014 Dodge Journey (Sask License 088-LAR) reported stolen from the 1700 block of St Laurent Drive Aug. 2.
  • A grey 2008 Chevrolet Impala (Sask License 606-MKM) reported stolen on Aug. 7 from MacKenzie King Crescent.
  • A brown 2003 Ford F150 (Sask License 010-MQX) reported stolen from Panton Ave sometime in the week prior to Aug. 8.

Other files

There were multiple arrests for impaired driving. This includes a two-vehicle collision on 105th St. the early morning of Aug. 6m where police discovered one of the drivers was showing signs of impairment by alcohol and had failed to yield at an intersection and struck a second vehicle. A 20-year-old woman was arrested and later released on charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving while over .08 causing bodily harm. The 18-year-old male driver of the other vehicle was treated from non-life threatening injuries.

Police were also called to a single vehicle accident south of Battleford on July 28. The driver, an 18-year-old woman from Martensville and the lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08.

In more traffic incident, officers arrested 34-year-old Steven Littlepoplar on Aug. 6. They were attempting to complete a vehicle check July 31, shortly after midnight on 101st St., where the driver fled from police on approach. No pursuit was initiated at first and the accused was arrested days later.

He appeared in court Aug. 8 for flight and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Rural boat theft

Turtleford RCMP are looking for a boat and trailer taken sometime July 29-Aug. 11 from overflow parking at Turtle Lake in the Southbay Campground. The boat is described as a white and blue 2005 Glastron inboard boat with a black trolling motor attached on the front, while the trailer is a white EZ loader.
