Canada Day fireworks show will be back to normal for city

Jun 28, 2022 | 8:35 AM

The City of North Battleford is getting ready for its big fireworks display to recognize Canada Day this year.

This is the first year the city will be able to hold the show without COVID-19 restrictions since 2019. Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl DeNeire gave an update on what to expect during this week’s city council meeting, as the fireworks display will start on King Hill after dusk on Friday, July 1.

People are invited to park at the Don Ross Centre parking lot and anywhere else they would usually park in the past. They can also view the show from the bridge. The city is also recommending people see the spectacle from along Railway Avenue as another option, while drivers are reminded not to block traffic wherever they park.

DeNeire said the city’s Community Safety Officers (CSOs) will monitor the event for everyone’s safety.

“It will be a normal year without any restrictions,” she said. “It’s going to be a great show and the weather looks like it is going to be clear, and not too cold. We’re looking forward to having everybody come out to enjoy the fireworks.”

According to the city’s website, the fireworks will run from 10:45 p.m. – 11:45 p.m.

The city wasn’t able to put on the show in 2020 on Canada Day due to increased COVID-19 precautions. In 2021, the fireworks went ahead on King Hill, but people viewing the display were asked to stay in their vehicles to socially distance. Only individuals from the same household were advised to occupy the same vehicle at that time.

Bike Parade in Meota

Residents in the Northwest will be able to see a variety of events, including those offered at Meota Regional Park on July 1.

A Children’s Bike Parade will start at 11 a.m. Kids are invited to arrive at 10 a.m. to decorate their bikes to take part. Following the parade, participants are invited to come and enjoy a hot dog snack with a refreshment.

Organizers are reminding people that no motorized vehicles will be allowed in the parade.
