RCMP Report P1: Assault warrant, arrests

Battlefords RCMP dealt with 25 assault investigations this week, which included multiple arrests, a new warrant and charges of sexual assault.

A 19-year-old male was arrested Tuesday morning in North Battleford after the alleged sexual assault was reported. The matter remains under investigation, with sexual assault and sexual interference charges currently pending.

In another incident, members responded to a report of a robbery in progress at 4:00 p.m. on May 31 at the 1100 block of 108th Street. The victim of the incident returned home in the middle of a break and enter, where the suspect produced a knife, but the victim was able to disarm the suspect before the suspect fled. The accused, a 21-year-old woman, was located a short time later and arrested.

She remains in custody with numerous pending charges. These include robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter, failing to comply with a release order, two counts of breach of probation, assault with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

911 calls

Sunday evening, officers responded to a 911 call from a dispute on Winder Crescent, where they found a male suffering minor injuries to his torso and face. The suspect, 35-year-old Nadine Wright, had already fled the scene and is now wanted on one count of assault, while the victim was treated in hospital.

Around 6:40 p.m. on Monday, another 911 call came in for an assault in progress on the 1700 block of 100th Street. Two women were involved in an altercation with each other when a third party allegedly kicked one of the subjects in the head several times. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any significant injuries, while the other two individuals left prior to police arrival. The matter remains under investigation.

One more 911 call came in around 11:30 a.m. on May 26, where a women reported she’d been assaulted with bear mace on the 200 block of 17th Street in Battleford. A 20-year-old woman was arrested a short time later without incident and is scheduled for court on June 27 on one count of assault with a weapon.

Gun-related arrest

A 17-year-old youth was arrested on May and now faces several firearms charges. A report came in that afternoon that someone was firing a gun near the town site of the Saulteaux First Nation. Police located the youth and recovered a firearm a short time after the initial complaint.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on July 14, facing charges of careless use of a firearm and two counts of weapons possession contrary to an order.
