1932 ~ 2022 (age 89)
It is with sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Mrs. Alice Potter, May 22, 2022 at the age of 89 years. A Celebration of Life Service and lunch will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Battlefords United Church with Reverend Gayle Wensley officiating. A private family interment will be held at the Maymont Cemetery.
Alice will be dearly missed by her sons: Ernie and Greg (Victoria); daughter, Christine (Chuck Lees); as well as her four granddaughters: Jessica Potter, Kate Velan (Nick and great-grandson Miller), Jayda Lees and Maya Lees. Alice will also be missed by her brothers: Eddie (Gloria) Kjargaard and Neil (Judy) Kjargaard; sister-in-law, Marie Hampson; as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Alice will be remembered fondly by family members in Denmark, especially those who she connected while visiting Denmark or those who visited Canada for vacations and extended stays.
Alice was predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph Potter; parents, Kris and Agnes Kjargaard; as well as her brother, Eric Kjargaard. She is also predeceased by father and mother-in-law: Ernest and Minnie Potter; sisters-in-law: Ruth Nelson (Philip) and Lillian Broste (Ronald); brothers-in-law: Will (Mable), Clarence (Pearl), Roy (Rose) and Frank (Marguerite) Potter and nephews: David and Brian Nelson.
Alice was raised on the Kjargaard family farm in the hills northwest of Richard. She attended nursing college and worked in Rockglen and Hafford hospitals before marrying Ralph Potter from Richard and opting to work on the Potter family farm and raise their three children. Alice always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, traveling, baking, cooking, and taking a drive in the country. On the farm, Alice kept an exceptionally large garden of vegetables as well as raspberries, strawberries and Saskatoons and she kept her freezer and shelves fully stocked! She loved her flowers and kept beautiful flower beds that she was very proud of.
Alice was a kind and loving person who brightened the day of everyone she encountered. She had a good sense of humor and every now and then she shared a giggle or a funny story about her brothers or friends. In her day she was quite the daredevil and her stories often surprised us. She suffered a stroke in 2018 that changed her life, but she never lost her sweet disposition. She moved to a care home in Lumsden, Saskatchewan in 2020 to be near her daughter and charmed the staff with her gentle disposition and grateful attitude. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
The family would especially like to thank the staff and friends at Caleb Village and the staff at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home who supported her in her later years.
Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan.
