On Air for Healthcare is halfway to the finish line at Battlefords Union Hospital.

The annual radiothon to support the BUH Foundation is back on the premises after a two year absence, broadcast live on Q98, 93.3 The Rock and CJNB. from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Residents can donate at any amount to support the BUH Foundation’s purchase of critical equipment. Nic Fransoo, Q98 Morning Show host and station program director, said they’ve enjoyed being back at the hospital, after holding the event outside the radio station.

“This is where the money matters, this is where it comes together,” he said. “You never want to see people coming to the hospital, the ER. Those dollars we raise today goes directly to that care.”

As of 12:00 p.m., the total stands at $46,099.75, with six hours to go. Fransoo thanked everyone who donated, while encouraging others to keep the support rolling in.

Donations are going towards live-saving equipment, including a new LUCAS Chest Compression system to provide steady CPR. Lauren Stade, Manager of Clinical Services, said it’s important to offset staff when they’re fatigued.

“It provides the appropriate rate and depth to provide high quality CPR for the patients and really results in better outcomes with something that’s physically demanding,” she said.

They are also getting new defibrillators, as well as a trauma stretcher, which BUH has not had before. Stade said this is also critical when bringing people in and out of the Emergency Room.

“We’re able to take x-rays on the patient directly and have them immobilized to decrease the amount of pain they are experiencing,” she said.

There are several ways to donate, both in person, over the phone and online.

There are in-person donations you can do directly at BUH or at the drive-thru site in the hospital parking lot, as well as a coin toss barrel at the location.

An addition in 2022 is the Text-To-Donate line, where donors can text “donate” to 306-805-1829 to receive a text back with instructions on the text line.
