RCMP Report: Assault, break-in arrests

Apr 28, 2022 | 12:40 PM

Battlefords RCMP arrested a 33-year-old male for assault following an altercation at a North Battleford business last week.

Members responded to a 911 call on the Highway 16 Bypass shortly after 5:00 p.m. on April 21. A 34-year-old male employee was found suffering from a bleeding nose. Sgt. Neil Tremblay told battlefordsNOW that a reported disagreement between him and the accused turned into an altercation, where the employee tried to distance himself but was hit in the head and face.

“Fortunately, we were able to find him near the scene quickly, then arrest him without incident and process him,” Tremblay said.

The accused has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 6, while the victim did not require medical care.

Battlefords RCMP dealt with a total of 19 assault investigations, but this was the lone case resulting in charges.

Weather assists break-in arrest

Police responded to a break and enter call early in the morning on April 20 from the 1600 block of 100th Street. Members were able to locate and arrest a 32-year-old suspect nearby without incident.

“There was surveillance footage, but he was also tracked prior to his arrest as it had snowed,” Tremblay said.

Nolan Bird of Saskatoon was remanded into custody for breaking and entering and appeared in court on April 21. A second suspect was also arrested shortly after the reported incident, and was later released, but Tremblay said charges may be forthcoming and added that the investigation will continue.

An attempted break-in to a residence on Jeanne Crescent in Cochin took place on Sunday morning. An unknown number of suspects were unable to gain access, but damaged a lock to gain entry to a camper in the yard.

Other calls

The detachment had 425 calls this week, which shows a decline in files from the previous few months. Tremblay said that whether this is a trend or related to the change in weather, it’s a good sign.

“We’re seeing less stolen vehicles and a few less person’s offences, so we’ll see how the rest of spring goes,” he said.

Among those calls were four missing person investigations (none active), three vehicle thefts, nine mental health investigations, seven traffic collisions, 28 various traffic charges and three individuals charged with impaired driving.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
