RCMP Report Pt. 2: Assault arrest, dangerous driver stopped

Apr 22, 2022 | 6:00 AM

At the start of the week, Battlefords RCMP arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a woman in her 30s.

Officers responded to a 911 call early Sunday morning, which came from a home south of Battleford. The victim was found with injuries to her face, requiring treatment by paramedics. The injuries were non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the victim and the accused knew each other.

“Since being treated, she’s expected to make a full recovery.”

As a result, Dustin Moosomin was arrested on scene for assault causing bodily harm. He appeared in court on Monday.

Tromblay said officers dealt with 20 assault cases in total, but these other investigations didn’t result in more serious charges.

“The circumstances were a lot less severe,” he said. “Charges were minor, court dates were given and in some cases, the accused wasn’t really arrested.”

Extreme speeding results in arrest

In one of three incidents where a person was charged with impaired driving this week, the driver was also driving 100 km/h within city limits.

Police did a traffic stop in North Battleford on Sunday, where a vehicle was seen travelling at twice the legal speed limit.

“Traffic was light and he was going more than 100 km/h in a 50 zone around 1:30 a.m.,” Tremblay said.

The 19-year-old driver was the only occupant and is facing charges of dangerous driving, impaired driving and driving while over the legal limit of alcohol. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on May 16.

Other calls

Battlefords RCMP dealt with 517 calls for service during this latest seven-day period, including four vehicle theft investigations. Two active searches include:

  • A brown 2011 GMC Terrain (Sask License 779-MNW) was reported stolen from 27th St. in Battleford sometime on Sunday.
  • A black 2001 Ford F250 (Sask License 499-LCW) was reported stolen from Carlton Trail between 8:00–11:00 a.m. on Monday.

Tremblay said they’re happy to see a decrease in calls regarding vehicle thefts in the past few weeks.

“Obviously we’d love to see no vehicles stolen, but it’s still encouraging to see the numbers going down,” he said.

Other calls for service during the past week include eight missing person reports (no active investigations), 12 break and enter investigations, 18 Mental Health investigations, four traffic collisions and 77 various traffic charges.

Anyone with information on any crime can call Battlefords RCMP at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
