Two times a winner.

The City of North Battleford announced at this week’s council meeting, the city has been honoured with a Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award that recognizes high quality financial reporting for municipal governments.

The award aims to encourage Canadian local governments to prepare annual financial reports that reflect transparency and full disclosure, and recognizes individual municipal governments that succeed in achieving this goal.

City Finance director Brent Nadon said this is the second consecutive year the city received the honour through the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program. The city previously applied and was named as one of the recipients for the 2019 fiscal year . Then in 2021, the city applied for the 2020 fiscal year, and was successful again.

“Attaining this award represents a significant accomplishment by the city and its management team…” Nadon said. “A heartfelt thank you to the entire finance team, especially Margarita Pena, Manager of Finance, for helping lead this process, especially during a transition between [finance] directors.”

Nadon said achieving this type of award is only possible through city-wide collaboration.

“A big thank you to all staff who assisted with the annual report or contributed to this success with their hard work for the city.”

Mayor David Gillan was also thrilled with the news.

“That’s fantastic,” he said. “We also as council congratulate you and your team for a job well done…We hope you can get it three years in a row.”
