RCMP Report Pt. 2: Cochin robbery suspects arrested

Mar 24, 2022 | 11:20 AM

An attempted vehicle theft resulted in three people being arrested in Cochin on Monday with weapons and break-in tools in hand.

Police received a report from a residence in the area that morning and located the vehicle a short distance away, arresting three subjects on the scene. Officers also recovered a machete, a knife and backpack full of break and enter tools.

At this time, Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the Battlefords RCMP don’t believe the theft was connected to others.

“This incident appeared more crime of opportunity,” he said. “They were located pretty quickly as members were already in the area.”

As a result, 20-year-old Jenna Haraburda, 21-year-old Nicholas Osecap and 22-year-old Andy Swiftwolfe were all remanded into custody. Haraburda and Swiftwolfe are both charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, the latter also facing one count of possession of break-in tools. Osecap is charged with theft of a vehicle.

All three appeared in court on March 22.

Break and enters

On Monday, a 30-year-old male was arrested for reportedly breaking into a residence on Saulteaux First Nation. He has a court date later this spring.

RCMP are also looking into a business compound theft on Railway Avenue East from Monday where several windows were damaged, and a break and enter at a garage on the 1500 block of 104th Street early on March 18 where tools and vehicle tires were reported missing.

Teenager in custody

RCMP members arrested a 15-year-old youth Tuesday evening, following a report of a suspect sitting in someone’s car on St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford. Tremblay said they have not determined whether the youth was attempting to steal the car, things in the car or otherwise, but the teen fled from police and was arrested and held in custody.

Following a Wednesday court appearance, the accused faces charges of mischief, possession of break-in tools and failing to comply with a probation order.

Of the 14 vehicle theft reports, police are still looking for a green 2008 Ford F150 stolen from the 1900 block of 98th Street on Tuesday morning, as well as a grey 2004 Chevrolet Colorado (Sask License 157-LZR) stolen in North Battleford on Monday.

Other calls

A 41-year-old man from Mulligan, Sask., faces multiple drug possession and trafficking charges after being pulled over in the Battlefords on March 18.

Police performed a vehicle check on the Highway 16 Bypass late that evening, finding illicit materials. The charges include possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of fentanyl have been laid and the man appears in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 11.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
