Repaired on warranty

Town water line leak at Poundmaker property now fixed

The Town of Battleford reported a leak on its water distribution supply pipeline to Poundmaker Cree Nation’s property known as Poundmaker 2 has now been repaired.

Coun. Doug Laing raised the issue at this week’s town council meeting when giving his Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) committee monthly report.

Town Utilities Department manager Aubrey Whittleton gave an update on the situation. The line at Poundmaker 2, located west of Highway 4, south of Battleford, came apart in a section where the pipe joined. When Whittleton became aware of the situation, he contacted the engineering firm involved at the time. The company in turn reached out to the contractor who installed the line.

“We are over our one-year warranty period, but they came back and did fix it on warranty,” Whittleton said. “They found it was not a proper join where they welded the two plastic pipes together.”

The break was possibly caused by friction from ground slumpage or ground movement.

“They did fix it, and as of a week-and-a-half ago [it is] back up and running,” Whittleton said. “So Poundmaker had to haul water for about a week.”

Whittleton said in his reporter that otherwise there were no other issues and everything is now back to normal again.
