Turtleford, Onion Lake RCMP arrest man for armed robbery

Feb 3, 2022 | 2:56 PM

Police from Turtleford and Onion Lake arrested and charged a robbery suspect, who fled police in a vehicle and on foot.

Both detachments received a report of a robbery in Paradise Hill around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the investigation of which determined that an armed male entered the business, approached an individual and took their vehicle keys. The suspect then exited the building and fled with the victim’s vehicle. The victim was not physically injured.

Police soon located the stolen vehicle on Highway No. 797 and activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment, but the driver continued driving west. Officers then set up a spike belt, which successfully stopped the vehicle and the driver was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Following his arrest, 21 year-old Jesse Lewis of Onion Lake is charged with multiple criminal offences, including:

  • Robbery with a restricted firearm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Failing to stop for a peace officer
  • Carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence
  • Operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public

Lewis has appeared in court and has been remanded until his next appearance by video in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 4.
