RCMP Report Part 2: Series of break-ins, vehicle thefts

Jan 13, 2022 | 10:50 AM

The Battlefords RCMP are investigating a series of break and enters and vehicle collisions that occurred early Monday morning.

At least two suspects were involved during these incidents from in and around North Battleford, which involved two separate stolen trucks, a white Dodge crew cab and a dark coloured dually truck. The suspects used the stolen vehicles to ram their way into a residential garage in the rural area near the city, a second garage on the 1200 block of 96th Street and caused damage to a business on Canola Avenue. These vehicles are suspected of also being involved in causing damage to at least four parked vehicles on the 1400 block of 104th Street, by intentionally ramming into them.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay told battlefordsNOW they believe it was the same two or three people involved in all of these incidents, from which a lot of property was taken. At this time, they’re hoping to find any footage related to the investigation.

“We recovered the two vehicles and some of the property,” Tremblay said. “We’re just hoping if anyone saw anything in the early morning hours of the 10th (Jan. 10) it will jog their memory, because the damage was quite significant.”

Both vehicles were found abandoned, along with the remaining stolen property. The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.

In another break and enter case, police arrested a 34-year-old male after investigating the scene of a business on the Highway 16 Bypass in North Battleford on Jan. 5. He has been charged with possession of stolen property and possession of break-in instruments and will make his first court appearance in on Feb. 7.

There was also a break and enter to a residence on the 600 block of 101st Street around 5:00 a.m. on Jan. 7. Some tools and electronics were reported stolen.

Vehicle thefts continue

Police dealt with 17 investigations of vehicles reported stolen over the past week.

Tremblay said leaving your car or truck unattended while running on a driveway or by a business remains the most common occurrence in these instances. Some of the vehicles reported were located later on, though several are still missing.

“On many occasions they weren’t left unattended more than two minutes, but that’s all people need,” Tremblay said.

Among the vehicles that still require searches are:

  • A red 1998 Toyota Rav4 (Sask License 417-MGW) reported stolen from the 100 block of 27th Street in Battleford on Jan. 5.
  • A brown 2011 Chevrolet Equinox (Sask License 642-MIQ) stolen from the 1400 block of 110th Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 5.
  • A brown 2001 Ford F150 Supercab (Sask License 829-IWB) reported stolen from the 1200 block of 98th Street at 6:25 a.m. on Jan. 5.
  • A grey 2004 Chevrolet Silverado (Sask License 559-KXQ) stolen sometime in the early morning hours of Jan. 11 from the 1800 block of 91st Street.

One recovered vehicle has a lead on a suspect. It was reported stolen on Jan. 8 from Thomas Avenue in North Battleford and found abandoned near a residence on the Moosomin First Nation. A 23-year-old male from Battleford has been identified as a suspect and charges are currently pending.

Anyone with information on any incident is urged to call the North Battleford RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
