RCMP Report Pt. 2: Series of Battlefords break-ins

Dec 29, 2021 | 4:20 PM

During the past two weeks, the Battlefords RCMP had 905 calls for service, including another series of break-ins that may be connected.

Several of the 13 break and enters included vehicles taken during the break in. On Highway 4 south of Battleford, a break and enter was reported shortly after midnight on Dec. 28, where three suspects used a 1990s style grey pick-up to ram the store and fled the scene after stealing merchandise. Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the incident remains under investigation.

“The vehicle was later recovered on the northern part of the city and we believe the same individuals committed a break and enter at a business in the north end, that’s where they stole a couple vehicles and a trailer,” he said.

This occurred at a storage building at a business location on Highway 4 North at the edge of North Battleford. Among the stolen items was a blue 2003 Trailblazer, a blue 1997 Dodge Ram and a Sure-Trac Trailer with Saskatchewan licenses of 526-LYA, 841-KTZ and 606-LGW. The previously stolen vehicle found nearby matched the description of the suspected truck involved in the Highway 4 South break-in.

Other cases include a garage on the 1500 block of 105th St. on Dec. 19 and a storage shed on the 1400 block of 109th St. on Boxing Day.

Driving dangerously

Other calls for service include 34 Mental Health investigations, 43 traffic collisions, 61 various traffic charges and three individuals that were charged with impaired driving.

One of the latter was a vehicle in the ditch near the service road on Highway 4 North in North Battleford on Dec. 21 where an 18-year-old woman was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. She will make her first appearance in court on Jan. 24.

Another was a truck hitting the ditch on Highway 4 North of North Battleford at 2:45 a.m. on Boxing Day. A 62-year-old man was arrested, charged with impaired driving and refusal and makes his first court appearance on Feb. 28.

While impaired driving is dangerous in any circumstance, Tremblay noted these frigid conditions are particularly serious.

“If you hit the ditch and you’re in the location that’s far from traffic, you can get cold in a vehicle pretty quick,” he said.

Anyone with information on any incident is urged to call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
