Three arrests, one at large in Island Lake search

UPDATE: Harold Jr. Mitsuing was arrested on Island Lake First Nation and remanded into custody, until his next court appearance in Pierceland on Feb. 2. Kashtin Sandfly remains at large.

Loon Lake RCMP arrested two men and added a name to the search for Kashtin Lee Sandfly, stemming from an incident on Island Lake First Nation.

Based on the investigation by the Loon Lake detachment, along with the North Battleford General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services,

Kirk Crookedneck, 30, Harold Jr. Mitsuing, 32, and Andrew Opikokew, 22, all now face multiple criminal charges.

Mitsuing faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle. As of Dec. 28, he has not been located and there is a warrant for his arrest. He’s described as 6’0, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Mitsuing is known to frequent the communities of Island Lake First Nation, Mudie Lake First Nation, and Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. Police are warning residents not to approach him, as he may be armed and is considered dangerous.

Crookedneck is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm while being reckless and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Opikokew is also charged with discharging a firearm while being reckless, as well as being an occupant of a motor vehicle with a firearm.

Both Crookedneck and Opikokew appeared in Loon Lake Provincial Court on Dec. 23 and are scheduled to appear again on Jan. 6.

Sandfly has also not been located. Loon Lake RCMP continues to seek the public’s assistance for information on his whereabouts, while the same warnings apply for Sandfly as they do for Mitsuing.

Anyone with information on either suspect’s whereabouts can contact Loon Lake RCMP, Crime Stoppers or call 911 in an emergency.
