Omicron Variant

No Omicron variant found in P.A. and North Battleford’s wastewater: U of S

Dec 21, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The latest COVID-variant isn’t believed to have reached Prince Albert or North Battleford at this time.

That’s according to the University of Saskatchewan which has been studying wastewater in the two communities to determine how prevalent the virus is.

So far, they haven’t detected any Omicron levels.

The same can’t be said for Saskatoon, the third and final city the U of S has been studying.

Around 33 per cent of the virus levels found in the city’s wastewater have been the Omicron variant.

Despite no levels being found in P.A. or North Battleford, it doesn’t mean the virus isn’t in either community.

The samples from P.A. were collected on Dec. 13, while North Battleford’s were collected on Dec. 11.

Meanwhile, there have been 65 Omicron cases detected across the province. This is according to the Government of Saskatchewan.

Only 10 of these cases are 100 per cent confirmed, while the other 55 are still considered probable.

The province has not said which region these cases are located in.
