RCMP report: Police looking for assault, truck theft suspects

Dec 17, 2021 | 5:00 AM

Battlefords RCMP are looking for a stolen vehicle with two suspects, who sprayed the driver that had given them a ride.

Police received this call late Tuesday afternoon and attended the scene of Eighth Avenue and Territorial Drive. Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the man assaulted told police a man and woman he did not know approached him requesting a ride from a business on the east side of North Battleford.

“Part of the way where he was supposed to drop them off, they assaulted him with the bear mace and took his vehicle,” he said.

The victim was treated by ambulance for exposure to the bear mace, but sustained to further injury.

The suspect’s fled in the victim’s grey 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab (Sask license 715-KND). They are a woman in her 20s or 30s, wearing a red mask, heavier set, short with a tattoo on her neck, and a clean shaven male wearing a black sweater.

There were 26 total assault investigations for the detachment, including a case in Moosomin First Nation where a 24 year-old woman reportedly punched another female several times, causing non-life threatening injuries to her head and face. The accused was released from custody on conditions of no-contact and appears in court Jan. 24.

Another call resulted in the arrest of a 42 year-old male, who reportedly assaulted a woman in her 30s and violated an order to remain away from her, stemming from a previous allegation of assault. This occurred on the 1200 block of 111th St.

Todd Stonechild is charged with assault and failing to comply with a release order. He was held in custody and made his first appearance in court on Dec. 10.

Police have one other active vehicle theft investigation, a grey 2011 Chevrolet Traverse LT (Sask license 416-MGE) reported stolen from the 1400 block of 102nd St. in North Battleford sometime Dec. 10-11.

Garages, sheds broken into

There were 12 break and enter investigations, including at a garage on the 1500 block of 105th St. on Dec. 13, where tools and a chainsaw were stolen.

A 50 year old male was arrested on Tuesday as a result and he now faces charges of theft and possession of stolen property. Other charges are still pending and the matter remains under investigation.

Tremblay said they are investigating whether this is connected to other incidents.

“We believe there’s a couple other suspects and there’s the possibility that they were related to other break-ins that were similar,” he said. “Still new in the investigation, so we can’t say for certain.”

Some of the other reported incidents this service period include a storage shed on the 1400 block of 109th St. on Tuesday, a residence on the 1400 block on 103rd St. where tools were stolen Monday and an attempted break-in to a storage shed on the 1400 block of 109th St. on Tuesday where two suspects were witnessed fleeing the area.

Tremblay noted there been some break-ins in vacant or abandoned homes and owners should take precautions.

“Most of them are not resulting in much for damage or theft,” he said. “We just want people to be aware that if they have homes that are abandoned or vacant that this has popped up.”

Other cases

Officers arrested two men from Saskatoon following a traffic stop north of North Battleford on Dec. 11. A small amount of Cocaine, cash and other paraphernalia were seized in the stop and 45 year-old Collin Foster and 44 year-old Ibrahim Sawi were held in custody.

Tremblay said the stop was initiated given the suspicious nature of the vehicle that evening.

“A little off of Highway 4 at a time of day where you typically don’t see vehicles, so it was a little suspicious in terms of where it was and how it was driving,” he said.

Both of the accused are charged with multiple offences, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, appearing in court on Dec. 13.

Among the 446 totals calls for service were eight Mental Health Act investigations, 13 traffic collisions, 44 various traffic charges and four individuals were charged with impaired driving.

Anyone with any information on any incident can contact the detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
