‘Give Big, Shop Small’ event to benefit BGC Battlefords

Dec 8, 2021 | 4:17 PM

A group of local businesses are coming together to organize a shopping promotion to benefit the BGC Battlefords (formerly known as Boys & Girls Clubs of The Battlefords).

Called “Give Big, Shop Small,” the event runs Sunday at participating stores from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., depending on the business.

Olivia Mack, a co-owner of Aurora Boutique on 100 Street in North Battleford, who is helping co-ordinate the event, hopes it will bring people out to shop locally, and support the community organization that helps youth at the same time.

Each participating business is asked to donate $50 to the BGC Battlefords. About a dozen businesses have signed on to take part so far.

Mack said a number of businesses started the “Give Big, Shop Small” event in 2020, and decided to hold it again this year to more encourage people to shop local.

She said they are holding it on a Sunday to make it more convenient for residents to do their Christmas shopping. During the promotion, more stores will be open on Dec. 12, as an extra shopping day.

“We did it last year with just a small group of us,” Mack said. “It was a good success. We wanted to do it again this year and include as many businesses as we could. So we could raise more money for the Boys & Girls Clubs.”

Mack added many businesses will also have special sales or promotions on the day of the event to encourage more people to come in and shop.

People are asked to check with their favourite store’s Facebook page to find out which businesses are taking part.

She said people will get an opportunity to shop on a Sunday, and get a good deal at the same time.

Mack added they will also know “they are also making a difference, because the business they are supporting is paying it forward to pass on some cash to the Boys and Girls Clubs.”

Here is a list of the businesses participating so far: Aurora Boutique, Craig’s Boutique, Boutique Noir, Freedom Skate and Snow, Luna and Leigh, Jeans and Joggers Kids, Jeans and Joggers, Autumn and Ash, Chic and Shabby, Austin’s Saddlery, Officially the Smiths, and Bohemian Sense.
