City approves sweeper unit leasing agreement

Dec 3, 2021 | 4:53 PM

The City of North Battleford is entering into a new lease agreement for a street sweeper machine to be prepared for next spring.

Council authorized administration to enter into a 72-month lease agreement with a 10 per cent residual payment with Raymax Equipment Sales Ltd. of Calgary to supply a Global Sweeper Model M4HSD with extended-reach gutter brooms in the amount of $5,697 including PST per month.

Essentially, council gave the go ahead only to lease the sweeper equipment at this time. Following the 72-month lease period, the city will have an opportunity to purchase the sweeper for 10 per cent of the total residual purchase price, but council has not made any decision on that at this point.

During their recent meeting, council weighed in on leasing versus purchasing the equipment outright.

Seton Winterholt, the city’s fleet and maintenance manager, pointed out the operations benefits of leasing the equipment in particular.

“The leasing option allows us to have the sweeper for a certain amount of time to determine that it’s a good fit and a good machine before we do an outright buy of it at the end of the lease,” he said.

Winterholt noted if council then wishes the city to have the option to purchase the sweeper at a discounted price, the machine could potentially become the city’s property at that time.
