Lorie Whitecalf has been re-elected as chief of Sweetgrass First Nation in Tuesday’s vote.

This is her second consecutive term in the position. She garnered the most votes in the race, surpassing contenders Deanna Thomas, Laurence Paskemin and Cynthia Albert. The official vote count was not available at press time.

“I am honoured to have been re-elected in Sweetgrass First Nation,” Whitecalf said in an email to battlefordsNOW on her victory. “I am looking forward to working with the four incumbent councillors and two new councillors who both have leadership experience.”

For the six councillor positions, incumbents Hazen Paskimin, Donovan Arcand, Isaac Thomas and Trina Albert along with new candidates Ray Fox and Rod Atcheynum were elected.

Whitecalf who was last elected in 2019, also had six years previous experience in the role of chief.

She is excited about working with the new council for the term ahead.

“We look forward to doing our best to serve our community that we love,” she said.
