RCMP Report: 16-year-old charged following assault

Oct 13, 2021 | 4:09 PM

A teenage male in North Battleford faces multiple charges following an incident on Oct. 10.

Police received the call that morning, where a man was suffering from a gunshot wound on the 1400 block of 102nd Street. The 38-year-old male was quickly located and found to have injuries from both an edged weapon and a suspected BB gun.

As a result of the incident, a 16-year-old youth is charged with discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. He made his first appearance in court on Tuesday, while the victim was treated and released from hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

Other assault cases

The Battlefords detachment responded to just over 500 calls over the past week, which included 24 assault investigations.

Among those was an incident on St. Laurent Drive and 110th Street on Oct. 7, where two men yelling at each other shifted to one of them challenging an officer to a fight. Fleeing in a pickup truck afterwards, 23-year-old Darby Johnson was located a short time later and arrested without incident.

Among Johnson’s charges are possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. He appeared in court last week.

Police also responded to an incident on the 1800 block of 102nd Street on Oct. 6, where a 66-year-old male was struck with a metal bar by his 35-year-old daughter. She was arrested on the scene for assault with a weapon and will appear in court Dec. 6.

Break-ins continue, but in less volume

While there were no break and enter cases involving businesses this week, Battlefords RCMP had five investigations, including one at a residence on the 1800 block of 101st Street last week. The items that were taken included hockey equipment.

There were six vehicle thefts in this service period, with police on the lookout for two of them; a grey 2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Saskatchewan license 861-MFS) and a white 2016 Ford Edge (Saskatchewan license 355-LWM) stolen over the weekend from the 1400 block of 102nd Street and the 900 block of 106th Street respectively.

Other calls for service included four missing persons reports (none of which are active), 17 Mental Health Act investigations, 10 traffic collisions, two individuals charged with impaired driving offences and 45 various traffic charges.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
