Major Crimes Unit investigating after teen found seriously injured in Onion Lake

Oct 12, 2021 | 12:44 PM

The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has taken over the RCMP investigation of an incident that left a 17-year-old injured on Onion Lake First Nation.

Police in Onion Lake received a call on Oct. 8 regarding an injured person in a rural area on Pipestone Creek Road. The teenager, who was from Onion Lake, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Given the serious nature of the incident, Onion Lake RCMP contacted RCMP MCU-South, who will lead this ongoing investigation with assistance from the local detachment and the Battlefords Forensic Identification Section.

The initial investigation determined the location where the teen was found is not where he was injured. Investigators are seeking any information about suspicious people or activity in that area of Pipestone Creek Road and Highway #797 between 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

Police are encouraging everyone with information to call in, even if residents think the details they know aren’t significant.
