Murder charge stayed for co-accused in Jonson homicide investigation

The co-accused in the Mark Douglas Jonson homicide investigation had his murder charge stayed, the court advised.

David Keller, 49, of North Battleford, was facing a first-degree murder charge in Jonson’s death two years ago.

He was originally scheduled for a three-week trial beginning on Monday.

Queen’s Bench Court in Battleford confirmed Keller’s charge ended up being stayed on April 29, 2021. A stay puts a stop to the case, but the court does have a year to bring the charges back.

Nicolas Buck, 24, who was also facing a charge in the case, was sentenced in March, 2021 to life in prison following his guilty plea to second-degree murder in Jonson’s July 2019 stabbing death.

On July 5, 2019, North Battleford RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male found in a home on the 1500 block of 100 Street in North Battleford. He was later identified as 61-year-old Mark Douglas Jonson of North Battleford. RCMP Major Crime Unit North, North Battleford, and Forensic Identification Services were involved in the investigation.
