Spiritwood RCMP have arrested a 60-year-old male in relation to the suspicious death reported on Friday.

Walter Jack Abbott of Pelican Lake First Nation was arrested later that day and has been charged with one count of second degree murder. The accused and the victim, a 54-year-old male from Golden B.C., were known to one another.

The morning of Sept. 17, police received a report that a male had been shot at a residence on Pelican Lake First Nation, after which both officers and EMS responded. The victim, who’s family has been notified, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Major Crime Unit North has been investigating the incident, along with Spiritwood RCMP and the Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section.

Abbott will make his first court appearance on Sept. 20 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
