Gorst wins CPCA Dash, defending champ Baptiste takes aggregate

Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst was the man standing on the winner’s podium Sunday, following a grueling final day of chuckwagon racing.

The Canadian Professional Chuckwagon’s last event was one of the only days of a dry summer to draw heavy rain, where Gorst was able to take home the prize Denham Chrysler truck as the dash winner. One of four drivers left standing at the end of the 2021 season, Gorst managed to just beat St. Wahlburg’s Jamie Laboucane and Todd and Ryan Baptiste of Red Pheasant Cree Nation.

The final heat hit an early snag, as Jamie Laboucane took a false start penalty, adding one second to his time. While Laboucane got out to an early lead, Gorst and Ryan Baptiste were able to close the gap at the end to make that penalty stick.

Todd Baptiste, the 2019 CPCA Champion, was able to take home some hardware, finishing as the High Point Champion for the season and the Aggregate Winner for this years CPCA Finals. Brad McMann of Chauvin, Alberta had the fastest time of the day in Heat 7.

For Gorst, this wraps up an incredible return to the CPCA after competing in the WPCA since 2012. Gorst last made the CPCA Finals Dash in 2011 and his other significant victory in chuckwagon racing came in 2019 when he won the aggregate title at the Calgary Stampede.
