NW Territorial Days Parade set in North Battleford

Aug 16, 2021 | 3:42 PM

There’s just a few hours until parade time for families in the Battlefords.

The Northwest Territorial Days Parade, held by the Battlefords Agricultural Society, gets underway this evening at 7:00 p.m.

General manager Jocelyn Ritchie said they’ve been eagerly looking forward to be able to finally host the parade after it was cancelled last year. While the numbers for entries are down, she’s heard good feedback about attendance. Previous years saw the parade get near 150 entries, this year there will be a little over 50 in the marching line.

“It’s been a long while without being able to host any events, so we’re really excited about the parade this evening,” Ritchie said.

Nothing will be handed out to spectators in either pamphlet or candy form. Ritchie said that’s due to COVID-19 safety precautions

“There’s a lot of variants still, so we decided no handouts this year,” she said.

The parade route will begin at the Access Communications Centre (formerly Civic Centre), heading west to 100th Street. The route then goes south down to 13th Ave and turns east on 13th to 105th Street. The final stretch of the parade heads back north to the AC Centre.

Ritchie said it’s important to find an ideal seating location prior to the parade getting underway, adding that some people come as early 5:00 p.m. to start lining up.

“Everyone make sure you get your best position and lawn chair,” she said. “I think it will be a really nice parade this evening.”

The area had been filled with smoke earlier on Monday, but currently there are no air quality statements coming from Environment Canada. A midway will then take place from Thursday to Saturday, though some changes due to Ag Society safety protocols will need to be followed.
