Downtown revitalization

Town hopes to attract new business with downtown open house

Aug 4, 2021 | 1:12 PM

The Town of Battleford is planning a Downtown Business Open House coming up to help bring new business to the community and fill up some empty store-fronts.

The event will be held along 22nd Street from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11 and Saturday, August 14.

Community planner Paige Hundt says individuals will be able to view locations where they may be interested in opening a shop.

“It’s definitely a great opportunity to showcase the vacant buildings and lots that we have here to really incentivize people to start their business here,” she said.

Hundt says the occasion will also be a good time for existing business owners to promote themselves and their products, and bring people out to shop.

The event will offer those considering starting a business a chance to see how vibrant the town’s core commercial
area is, how well the existing businesses are doing downtown, and how much foot-traffic they see.

“Hopefully, that will show them as well why Battleford is such a great place to operate a business…,” Hundt said. “You never know who might see an empty building or an empty lot and may think it’s a great time to start a business.”

During both days Hundt plans to visit the shop owners downtown and also meet with any individuals considering starting a new business to see what they are looking for.

She adds the town also offers tax incentives to encourage business growth and improvement in the downtown.
