Red Pheasant Cree Nation planning youth culture camp
Under the bright summer skies, young people will have a chance to learn more about their culture and take part in a variety of fun activities at the same time during an upcoming camp at Red Pheasant Cree Nation.
The Youth Culture/Summer Camp 2021 runs from Aug. 2 to 4. Participants have an opportunity to stay overnight as well on Aug. 2 and 3.
One of the organizers, Lacee Wuttunee, says the event that’s open to ages 12 to 17 includes such activities as Medicine Picking, Storytelling and Identity to help kids learn more about themselves and be proud of their heritage. A Round Dance is also planned.
“They can connect with their culture and their identity,” she said. “We’re going to have Elder mentoring so the kids can speak to the Elders. We really want to connect the youth with their cultural identity. That’s a big aspect of what we are doing with this culture camp.”
