City of North Battleford to repair wind storm damage to tennis court fencing

Jul 28, 2021 | 2:17 PM

The City of North Battleford is currently working to repair damage to the local tennis court fencing caused by the severe wind storm of the last week.

As previously reported, the severe wind gusts hit a high of 102 kilometres per hour in North Battleford. The damage effected the westward side of the tennis court fencing, believed to be due — at least in part — to the fence’s wind screen ultimately catching wind and causing pole damage to the fence and bending it out of shape.

The city has since removed the damaged wind screen.

Dustin MacDonald with the city said despite the damage, the courts remain safe to play, as the city awaits replacement materials to implement in the coming weeks, both for the short and long term.

“The tennis courts are still safe for play and new poles have been ordered and will be installed once they arrive,” MacDonald said. “Next year they will also be replacing the nine-foot wind screen with a five-foot windscreen instead, as that was causing difficulties with the high winds.”

MacDonald said the change should help minimize any wind damage in the future.
