RCMP Report: Multiple arrests made from stolen vehicle incidents

Jul 14, 2021 | 3:00 PM

Battlefords RCMP made multiple arrests in two separate incidents involving stolen vehicles.

On July 9, a vehicle reported stolen earlier in the day was recovered in Delmas, where police arrested two individuals and seized two handguns. Both 24-year-old Neisha Baptiste and a 17-year-old youth were charged with multiple weapons related offences such as unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police also arrested three individuals on Pioneer Road Monday morning, after they were found in possession of a stolen vehicle, which had run into mechanical issues from having diesel put into its non-diesel engine. One of the suspects attempted to flee on foot but was arrested after a lengthy pursuit. Police also recovered a small amount of illegal drugs and some bear mace during the arrests.

As a result, 24-year-old Craig Fox and 19-year-old Terri Fox were charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, while 26-year-old Justin Poitras faces two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and possession of methamphetamine. He also has two counts of possession of stolen property, as he was found to be involved in a second theft reported on this date.

All three were held in custody and made their first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Tuesday.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay said it’s concerning to find weapons in vehicles and a reminder for caution when residents come across stolen vehicles.

“If you see a vehicle that you think is stolen, contact police and do not approach,” he said, “because you never know what the circumstances are in why the vehicle was taken.”

“It’s always something to be mindful of.”

The detachment responded to six other reports of stolen vehicles, including a black 2015 Audi A4 with a Saskatchewan license plate 698-MHD. It was reportedly stolen from a residence on Mosquito First Nation on July 9.

Calls increase

Police in the Battlefords had another busy period, with 649 calls, a jump from last week. This included 11 assault investigations, eight break and enter investigations, one health/COVID violation investigation, 25 Mental Health Act investigations and one charge relating to impaired driving. There were also eight missing persons calls, including Grande Prairie male Matthaeus Kohls and the continued search for 13-year-old Skyler Tinker.

Tremblay said they’re receiving regular updates from Saskatoon Police Services, but nothing has changed.

“The information is that he’s (Tinker) still in Saskatoon, but he’s avoiding police,” Tremblay said. “So, that’s making it hard to track him down.”

Battlefords RCMP are also still investigating the incident from Monday, where gunfire occurred between two vehicles traveling south of Battleford. Tremblay said they are continuing to track down witnesses for statements.

“Right now we have no identified suspects yet.”

Police are asking anyone with information related to any incident to call the detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
