North Stars looking for billets for 2021-22 season

With hockey on the horizon to return this fall, the Battlefords North Stars are looking for billets for the 2021-22 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

Billet coordinator, Kyle Kellgren said it is important billet families provide the players with a strong foundation they can rely on, preparing meals for their players, and providing a welcoming atmosphere for them to stay.

“We always bring in quite a few out of town players from across Western Canada, Canada as a whole, and sometimes even the United States, so we look for billet homes that will provide a stable atmosphere,” Kellgren said.

“Parents send their kids from hundreds of miles away to play here, so we want to make sure while they’re here we’re offering the best possible accommodations and taking care of them like a home away from home.” – Billet Coordinator, Kyle Kellgren

Kellgren said he has seen first-hand time and again, the positive effect a billet family can have on the player(s) they invite into their home.

“We’ve had billets with us for 20-plus years, who have been invited to players’ weddings, their kids’ birth announcements, and once you become a part of the family, you’re part of the family for a long time,” he said.

“Whether you’re a family with small children and you have an extra room, or maybe you’re a couple who’s retired that has an extra room; the players have always taken well to where they’re at, and it’s something that’s really rewarding for the billets, the players and all involved.”
