Chamber Business Golf Challenge to take place next month

May 5, 2021 | 3:00 PM

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their seventh annual Chamber Business Golf Challenge next month at Jackfish Lodge and Conference Centre.

The tournament will be held Friday, June 18, with registration at 9:30 a.m. and shotgun start at 10:30 a.m., with golfing throughout the day. Breakfast will be supplied in the morning prior to heading out, along with a lunch prepared at the clubhouse at midday as well.

Chief operating officer with the chamber, Linda Machniak said they are looking forward to being able to bring back the golf challenge this year after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

“Just the fact that we can get back out and hold the tournament again makes us really happy,” Machniak said. “I know there might be some members who may not be able to join us based on their own office or company protocols, but we’re hoping we can have a really good turnout and have some fun and fresh air outside, and just enjoy the opportunity to get together.”

Based on the current provincial guidelines in place, this year’s tournament could hold up to 144 people, with about 125 attending on average over previous years.

Those interested in registering are encouraged to enter in teams of four, though groups of two will also be permitted so long as they can stay in a bubble. Single entries will be considered only if there are additional golf carts for them to have their own.

Upon registration, each team will be asked to designate a ‘team captain,’ with email and contact information, so organizers can email or text them their starting hole and cart numbers directly. This will greatly minimize the number of people needing to gather together during registration on the day.

Similarly, only one team at a time will be permitted to warm on the tee-box, while any secondary group waiting for their turn on a given hole will be required to wait from their cart a safe distance away.

Businesses that contribute as a ‘host-a-hole’ sponsor will be able to be on the holes and meet and greet the golfers as they come through while staying socially distanced.

Registration fees will cover a participant’s golf, breakfast, lunch and cart. To learn more about this year’s tournament, call the Chamber office at (306) 445-6226, visit their website, or Facebook page.
